Total dimensions: 36" x 96", (each diptych 36" x 48"), oil on canvas, 2006

The Palace Hotel, a San Francisco city landmark is located at 2 New Montgomery Street at the corner of Market. It was built in 1875 by the architect John P. Gaynor. The famous tenor, Enrico Caruso was a guest at the hotel on April 18th, 1906, the same day the great earthquake and fire hit. This hotel survived the quake structurally and it took 3 years to re-build. Today, the Palace Hotel, continues to glow, a sophisticated and marvelous hotel. I highly recommend stopping by and viewing the hotel's interior lobby and in particular the Garden Court.

In the painting, The Palace and Carpets, an all-glass building is rising on the left, meanwhile a long, diagonal building: The Palace Hotel, is presented in a modern style, grouping the pair with the façade of + CARPETS, the original façade of Furniture and Carpets, located at Market and 7th Streets. Both The Palace Hotel + CARPETS, are San Francisco’s iconic landmarks, which were re-built after the 1906 earthquake. The invented all-glass building represents the new development for a futuristic city. The orange-red sky surrounds the setting, alive and on fire. San Francisco continues to rise. No matter how many fires and earthquakes burns and destroys, the city re-builds.

The Palace and Carpets, diptych I and II was exhibited in 2008, at HEART OF THE CITY: Two Person Art Exhibit and Book Release - Patricia Araujo and Mark Ellinger, at the North of Market/Tenderloin Community Benefit District Corporation, San Francisco, CA. (6 months exhibition).

This painting is featured in Patricia's book entitled, SOMA SEEN, published in 2008.
