SPECIAL PROJECTS


2019
Guest Speaker and Art Exhibit at the San Francisco History Center, February 2019. Patricia Araujo and book author, Christie Nelson of “Beautiful Illusion”, will collaborate with the San Francisco History Center and SF Public Library, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Golden Gate International Exposition. The exhibit will be on display at the Skylight Gallery, featuring original paintings by Patricia Araujo and accompanied by other ephemera and archives of the fair. On February 23rd, both Patricia Araujo and Christie Nelson will be guest speakers. Patricia Araujo will talk about her inspiration painting Ralph Stackpole’s Pacifica, the iconic statue that stood at the last World’s Fair. And Christie Nelson, will share insights to her newly published novel Beautiful Illusion - a cub reporter discovers romance and espionage as she investigates the Golden Gate International Exposition’s Japanese Pavilion (More TBA).

Guest Speaker and Art Exhibit, “Intrigue and Romance at the Fair” with Book Author, Christie Nelson at Treasure Island Museum, San Francisco, CA. May 26th, 2018. This event is organized by the Treasure Island Museum, part of "Little Island, Big Ideas" lecture series. As guest speaker, Patricia Araujo will talk about her inspiration painting Ralph Stackpole's Pacifica, the iconic statue that stood at the last World’s Fair. And accompanying her talk she’ll be exhibiting her paintings of Pacifica. In the newly published novel "Beautiful Illusion", a cub reporter discovers romance and espionage as she investigates the Golden Gate International Exposition’s Japanese Pavilion.  What secrets did author Christie Nelson discover in her research into Japan’s beautiful display on Treasure Island as that nation warred in Asia and prepared to attack America? And what inspiration does artist Patricia Araujo find in the face of Ralph Stackpole’s iconic Pacifica statue from the fair?  Speakers: Christie Nelson and Patricia Araujo. The author will sign copies of her novel to benefit the museum.

This exhibition was organized by the City and County of San Francisco Office of the Mayor, the San Francisco Historic Preservation Fund, the California Historical Society, and Non Plus Ultra. This exhibition was held at the vault of the historic Old Mint, showcasing original paintings of iconic city landmarks. Araujo was in-charge of curating exhibition and installation of artworks. March 2nd-5th, 2018.

A Solo Art Exhibit, Mid-Market Landmarks - Paintings by Patricia Araujo, and in collaboration with the San Francisco
Museum and Historical Society at the Old Mint, San Francisco, CA. This cohesive exhibition of 19 original paintings by Araujo, pays tribute to San Francisco’s Mid-Market architecture, of both abandoned and iconic city landmarks. Araujo was in-charge of curating exhibition and installation of artworks. This exhibition also participated with the annual popular event, “San Francisco History Expo” (Feb 28th-March 1st). Exhibit duration, January 28th-March 31st, 2015.

Patricia Araujo, steps beyond the scope of her 2008 book "SOMA SEEN" with a new solo show titled, The City from SOMA Grand. This exhibition will showcase her new paintings of the city seen from above SOMA Grand, and also
celebrates Araujo's new book publication, entitled "SOMA RISING". Alongside Araujo's rooftop works from SOMA
Grand, also included in this monograph, paintings of her continued interest in the facades of both iconic city
landmarks and abandoned downtown buildings as an elegy to San Francisco’s architectural past. Her paintings celebrate a marvelous city that continues to rise! Exhibit curated by Tatiana Takaeva and hosted by SOMA Grand.

HEART OF THE CITY: Paintings, Drawings and Photographs of San Francisco’s Central City -
Two Person Show and Book Release: Patricia Araujo and Mark Ellinger, @ North of Market/Tenderloin Community Benefit District Corporation, San Francisco, CA. The show spotlights architecture of the Tenderloin, Mid-Market Street and 6th Street/SoMa, exploring the beauty of decaying, abandoned buildings and iconic city landmarks. The opening will also coincide with the release of two books: Patricia Araujo’s “SOMA SEEN”, featuring drawings and paintings of South of Market Architecture, and the first volume of Mark Ellinger’s Up from the Deep: The Hotel Project, entitled “Part Two: Mid-Market Street". Both artists, Mark Ellinger and Patricia Araujo, were in charge of curating exhibition, and handling promotion and sales at the gallery space for 6 months duration.

A two year exhibition presenting Patricia Araujo’s paintings of San Francisco's Old Emporium building's
2004 renovation which involved the elevation of its rotunda 60 feet off the original ground level. "While the Old
Emporium is being converted into the new West Coast Westfield San Francisco Shopping centre in September 2006,
the rotunda still remains inside the building as it has for the last 100 years."
In-charge of installation job, curatorial practice, and promoted this exhibit during the two-year period.
