DESCRIPTION:
Inter-Continental & Thermal Plant, presents the thermal plant originally situated at 6th & Jessie Streets that I've painted in previous works relating to the site and this time it is standing against the tall glass facade of the Inter-Continental Hotel of San Francisco's South of Market. The buildings are featured in a linear format, in abstracted, colorful forms, and surrounded by a changing cloudy sky. This painting was inspired by a photograph taken by San Francisco Chronicle Urban Critic - John King, whom I've admired for his writings and photography, and mutual liking of the city's iconic architecture. I was delighted he offered permission to paint it back in 2013 as reference imagery for this piece. The painted buildings continue to captivate and embrace the city's changing landscape.
Inter-Continental & Thermal Plant was first exhibited during Araujo's solo show, ON THE EDGE OF DELICATE LINES, July-September 7th, 2013 at Alphaville Gallery, in San Francisco. It was also exhibited at Arttitud in San Francisco, in September 2013. This painting was on view at the Old Mint, for Mid-Market Landmarks solo exhibition in San Francisco, January-March 2015. Inter-Continental & Thermal Plant was later on view at the Marker Hotel, in San Francisco, to accompany a group show curated by Artspan- "Art in Neighborhoods", August 17th-November 21st, 2017. This painitng was exhibited at Araujo's Solo Show, "Abstract Metropolis" at Parisoma in San Francisco, January 18th to February 21st, 2018. It was accompanied for Araujo's "FACADES: Central City Architecture" show at the annual "SF History Days" at the Old Mint, March 2018. The piece was exhibited at the Park Central Hotel in San Francisco, April 17th-September 18th, 2018 and at Araujo's solo show "Urban Abstracts" at the Tenderloin Museum in San Francisco, December 6th, 2018 to February 3rd, 2019.
