Above the Plane Group Show, San Francisco October 13th - November 14th Opening: Wednesday, October 13th 6:00-9:00pm 1913 Fillmore Street San Francisco, CA
"Above the Plane" is the first in an Art vs Design series. The context of this group art show is site specific, experimental and to display art above a 2-dimensional plane. All art will be placed on shelves and tables designed by modern and historical furniture designers. It is our unique vision to bring together form, function and visual desire by both harmonizing and contrasting artists with designers. Collectively we plan to achieve a cohesive transformation inside Design Within Reach.
“I maintain that no good designer will ever be able to be successful in design on the aesthetic level without some level of art and likewise no artist will ever be great until they can also incorporate great design and purpose into their work.” – Artist Hideout
Design Within Reach and the experimental curators of Iconomy are proud to present the upcoming group art show Above the Plane, an exhibit which seeks a relationship between art, living space and its functional design environment. This exhibition will navigate the viewers through a habitat of art away from the traditional wall hangings and onto the surfaces of iconic furniture designs. The ethos behind the show is to surround spectators with a variety of visual displays in an effort to make a connection with each of the artists at hand and how art can manipulate space to adhere to our individual comforts.
Featured artists include Paul Allan, Sarah Applebaum, Patricia Araujo, Kylea Naomi Borges, Timothy Buckwalter, Jon Casey Clary, Scott Greenwalt, Obi Kaufmann, Tara Knutson, Meryl Pataky, and Zenaida Sengo. Above the Plane will take place on October 13 through November 14, 2010, at Design Within Reach Fillmore in San Francisco. Opening Reception will take place on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
